Cyberpunk 2077 with 60FPS With 4K Ultra

Cyberpunk 2077 Can't Be Played at 60FPS With 4K Ultra Settings on Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090

Cyberpunk 2077 will be pushing the limits of many players' hardware, even making the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 struggle to keep a high framerate.

With the release of Cyberpunk 2077, several outlets have begun to deliver their initial responses to some early copies of the game and how it performs on different platforms. While many of these reactions have been released as reviews of CD Projekt Red's latest title, tech analyst Tom's Hardware has shown the results of some stress tests for the upcoming game on some top of the line products.

One of these products includes the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090, which is currently the most powerful GPU on the market for PC gamers looking to get the best graphical performance out of the latest games. The results for Cyberpunk 2077 aren't exactly the most surprising, considering everything that CD Projekt Red has boasted about the upcoming title, but still notes how quickly developers can reach the upper limits of Next-Gen technology.

According to Tom's Hardware, this latest title will not be able to run at both 4K HD and 60FPS at the same time, even on Nvidia's 3090 at optimal settings. This doesn't even include Cyberpunk 2077's raytracing feature as a possible limiting factor to overstress the new GPU past the point of being able to reach for the ideal resolution and framerate settings. That isn't even to mention any systems attempting to reach for the fabled 120FPS that has become the next milestone for Next-Gen systems and components to reach for.

Of course, this is all before considering Cyberpunk 2077's day one patch, which may be able to optimize the game better and let it run a little more smoothly even at 4K. That being said, the current "limits" on the 3090 is still averaging in the upper 40FPS range, only dipping down as low as 39FPS as the minimum for the high performing GPU. Additionally, Tom's Hardware was able to bring the framerate all the way up into the hundreds on average at specific settings with a lower resolution, so players may have to choose which part of the performance is preferred.

Considering everything that has been shown about Cyberpunk 2077's visuals, this isn't quite surprising to see that even the 3090 struggles to reach native 60FPS while in 4K resolution. Between the sprawling cityscape, flashy weapons, and chaotic particle effects firing off in every direction, getting peak performance will likely be a heavy task for most graphics cards. Then, adding the raytracing on top of this art design, CD Projekt Red's newest title is going to be both a beautiful experience, if not somewhat taxing for even the strongest gaming components.

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on December 10th, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
